Walkers news: April 25 -- St. Louis 4, Des Moines 2
Record: 12-4, 1st, 2.5 GA Springfield
Alex Faedo took a shutout into the seventh inning by which time St. Louis led 4-0, and the River Walkers survived two late-game homers from Rafael Devers to defeat Des Moines 4-2 at LaBatt Park.
St. Louis scored twice in both the third and fourth innings to build its lead.
A two-run single from Jared Thomas off Harvesters starter Chance Adams handled the runs in the third inning.
Carlos Vidal hoisted a two-run blast off Adams in the fourth to build on that lead.
Faedo (2-1) allowed just two hits over the first six innings, but gave up a single to Austin Meadows to begin the bottom of the seventh.
Devers followed with a two-run homer, which spelled the end to Faedo's outing.
The right-hander exited having allowed the two runs on four hits. He struck out seven and didn't issue a walk.
Dan Jennings came on to retire the next three Des Moines batters to end the seventh.
With the heart of the Harvesters order, all left-handed hitters, Walkers closer Edwin Diaz swapped rolled with Jake Brentz.
In that eighth, Diaz pitched around a lead-off single from Thairo Estrada to keep it 4-2. f
Brentz came on in the ninth and got Meadows to fly out.
Devers, however, followed with a solo blast.
But that was it, as Cody Bellinger and John Lehto both grounded out to end it.
The save was the second of the season for Brentz.
