Walkers news: April 30 -- St. Louis 4, Springfield 2
Record: 14-5, 1st, 3 GA Springfield
St. Louis scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and rolled on to a 4-2 win over Springfield at Busch Stadium (1997).
Prairie Fighters starting pitcher Jared Kelley walked Bo Bichette to lead off the River Walkers bottom of the first inning, and Carlos Vidal made him pay for it with his fifth homer of the month.
St. Louis, however, was not done as the next batter, Andrew Benintendi drew a walk and Tanner Kohlhepp moved him to second with a single.
Kelley finally got an out when he got JT Schwartz to fly out, but Benintendi did move to third.
That was enough for him to score when Jean Carmona flew out to left.
Bichette hit a solo homer off Kelley in the fifth, making it 4-0.
Springfield did mount something of a comeback with single runs in the sixth and eighth.
But Jake Brentz handled the final 1.2 innings to earn his fourth save.
Steven Brault (3-0) made another strong start, allowing one run on four hits in six innings.
Nick Lodolo worked a scoreless seventh. Danny Grigg got the first out of the eighth, before giving way to Brentz.
