That's not how Historical Mode works. Right now, Historical Mode is only players who have played in the NHL (Edit: Note: Earlier Historical is different - this more affects recent historical). That means when you get to current times, the classes are sparse. Jeff is slowly adding everyone who was drafted, but it's not a fast process. You'll just have to survive for the 2 years, and then the classes reopen in 2020.
