Record: 93-62, 1st, 8.5 GA Springfield; NL South Division clinched; 3 GB Chicago for best record in NL
Tied 1-1, St. Louis scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to pave the way for a 4-1 win over Springfield at Olympic Stadium (Montreal).
The win clinched the National League South Division title for the River Walkers, who lead Springfield by 8.5 with seven games remaining.
St. Louis trails NL North Division leader Chicago by three games for the best record in the National League.
Jared Thomas got things going in the top of the fifth with a lead-off single.
Pitcher Alex Faedo got a bunt down to move him to second.
Bo Bichette made scoring easy with a two-run homer.
Carlos Vidal followed suit, making it a back-to-back, with another homer and all of a sudden St. Louis led 4-1.
Faedo (15-5) worked seven innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out 11 and walked one.
Tim Hill handled the eighth inning without an issue.
Jake Brentz got the first out of the ninth, before allowing a couple of base runners.
Edwin Diaz took over and struck out Wander Samuel Franco and got Andres Gimenez to fly out to end it.
For Diaz, it was his 24th save.
