St. Louis starting pitcher Alex Faedo worked seven scoreless innings and the River Walkers turned a 2-0 game into a blowout with five runs in the top of the seventh inning as they won 8-2 over Kansas City at Kansas City Municipal Stadium (1969).
The win allowed St. Louis to salvage the finale of the three-game series after dropping the first two.
Faedo (1-0) allowed six hits in his seven innings. He struck out nine and walked one.
The Walkers jumped on top in the first inning, Bo Bichette led off with a double off Pit Masters starting pitcher Juan Sandoval.
A wild pitch moved Bichette to third and he scored on a two-out single by Andrew Benintendi.
A lead-off homer from Jared Thomas made it 2-0.
St. Louis busted it open with its five-run seventh.
The first four Walkers hitters reached base, as Vidal Brujan led off with a double off Masters reliever Johnny Kuhn Jr..
What followed was an intentional walk, and a hit by pitch.
A wild pitch scored Brujan.
A walk to Edmond Americaan loaded the bases again.
Carlos Vidal drove in a pair with a two-out single off Frank Lopez.
Rhys Hoskins drove in the other two with a double.
Down 8-0, Kansas City scored twice in the ninth but it was never again a game.
Derek Gordon pitched a scoreless eighth for the Walkers but got knocked around in the ninth.
Tim Hill came on to get the final out.
