In the midst of a breakout season, and probably one in which he has been the most valuable player on the team, shortstop Rich White is forced to the IL with a strained back.
In his place, the Brewers bring up 24-year old fire-balling reliever Walter Hackler.
Joe Willemse will likely get the lion's share of the starts at shortstop in White's absence, with Brad Sherman taking over at second base, at least until Bobby Erbakan's return, which is likely at least 3 to 3 1/2 weeks away, given that he will probably get at least a bit of a rehab stint at AAA Chester.
