Walkers news: April 18 -- Rockford 4, St. Louis 3, 11 innings
Record: 7-5, 1st (Tied/w. Cedar Rapids and Kansas City), 0.5 GA Springfield
Estevan Florial's two-out homer in the bottom of the 11th inning off St. Louis reliever Nick Lodolo lifted Rockford to a 4-3 win at RFK Stadium (1962).
In his second inning of work, Lodolo retired Drew Mendoza and Jake Holland to open the 11th.
However, the third pitch he threew to Florial got turned around to the tune of 362 feet over the right-field wall for a game-winning homer.
A rough first inning for River Walkers starter Argenis Batista helped stake the Lightning to a 3-0 lead.
Batista walked two batters, three two wild pitches -- there also was an error by shortstop Vidal Brujan -- as the Lightning tallied three times without the help of a hit.
Rookie Myles Austin did all he could to get St. Louis back into it.
His solo homer off Rockford starter Dylan Cease in the second inning made it 3-1.
In the fourth, his two-out single off Cease made it 3-2.
Austin tied it in the sixth following a double by Andrew Benintendi with one of his own, his coming off reliever Josh Fleming.
Cease lasted just four innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out six and walked none.
Before Travis Krogman (1.0 IP) worked the final three innings to earn his first win of the season, four other relievers took the mound for Rockford.
Jaden Foster (1.2 IP) was the first of that ground. He was followed by Jaden Fleming (0.1), James Carney (1.0) and Taylor Widener (1.0).
