Walkers news: May 19 -- Kansas City 6, St. Louis 0
Record: 19-20, 4th, 2.5 GB Springfield and Des Moines
Kansas City starting pitcher Juan Sandoval lasted just three batters but six relievers combined to shutout St. Louis the rest of the way, as the Pit Masters downed the River Walkers 6-0 at Busch Stadium (1997).
Here is the list of hurlers who followed Sandoval to the mound: Archie Bradley (2.0 IP), David Berg (2.0), Noah Merdock (0.2), Austin Hansen (1.0), Nick Goody (1.1) and Kyle Nelson (0.2).
Bradley (2-0) came out of it with the win.
Ultimately, the Pit Masters got the only run they would need very early in the top of the first inning when after lead-off hitter Greg Jones was hit by a pitch from Walkers starter Steven Brault, he later scored on a Josh Shuler single.
Danny Cushing had moved Jones to second with a sacrifice bunt.
It would not be until the seventh inning before the Masters would score again.
This time they scored five runs.
Manny Machado opened the inning by leading off with a homer off Brault.
Things later got messy against the St. Louis bullpen.
A bases-loaded walk, issued by Justin Roberts, to Danny Cushing scored a run.
Josh Shuler delivered a two-run single.
Kansas City's final run scored on a John Curtiss wild pitch.
