Walkers news: July 1 -- Rockford 3, St. Louis 1
Record: 43-33, 1st, 3 GA Springfield
Konnor Pilkington shut out St. Louis over the first five innings and Rockford took an early lead and never trailed in a 3-1 win at Busch Stadium (1997).
The win allowed the Lightning to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the River Walkers.
Rockford struck right away against St. Louis starter Jimmy Lambert.
Willi Castro led off the game with a double
A single from Rece Hinds sent him to third, and he scored on a Mike Courtney fly ball.
Hinds put the Lightning up 3-0 in the fifth, with a two-run homer off Lambert.
Pilkington (2-6) allowed one hit over his five shutout innings. He struck out two and walked two.
The Lightning used five relievers -- Jaden Foster (1.0 IP), James Carney (0.1), Melvin Chavez (1.1), Taylor Widener (1.0) and Josh Fleming (0.1) -- to finish the game.
Fleming got Bo Bichette to ground out with runners on second and third to end the game and notch his second save.
