Walkers news: July 3 -- St. Louis 9, Kansas City 1
Record: 44-33, 1st, 3.5 GA Springfield
St. Louis scored four runs in the third inning and four in the fourth to send it to a lopsided 9-1 win over Kansas City at Kansas City Municipal Stadium (1969).
The victory, however, did not come without a cost for the River Walkers, as ace Alex Faedo left the game in the third inning with a sprained elbow.
He is expected to miss two weeks.
St. Louis broke on top with its four run top of the third.
It all started with a two-out single from Carlos Vidal off Pit Masters starting pitcher Frank Lopez.
Lopez seemed to melt after that, allowing consecutive walks to load the bases, before hitting Jean Carmona with a pitch to drive in a run.
Jared Thomas then cleared the loaded bases with a double, making it 4-0.
St. Louis beat up on Lopez again in the fourth.
Larry Ernesto drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a bunt from pitcher Luiis Palomo.
Bo Bichette scored Ernesto with a single.
Noah Murdock finally replaced Lopez, but St. Louis was not finished.
Rhys Hoskins singled to score Bichette.
A walk and single then loaded the bases for Thomas, who collected his fourth RBI of the game with a single.
Faedo allowed just one baserunner, via walk, in his 2.2 innings on the mound.
Palomo (2-0) took over and worked four innings, allowing one run.
Nick Lodolo retired the only batter he faced to finish the seventh.
John Curtiss didn't have much trouble in the eighth or ninth to end it.
