Walkers news: July 7 -- St. Louis 9, Cedar Rapids 0

Record: 48-35, 1st, 3.5 GA Des Moines
Jimmy Lambert tossed the first complete-game shutout of the season for St. Louis -- he also hit a home run -- as the River Walkers routed Cedar Rapids 9-0 at Busch Stadium (1997).
Lambert (4-2) scattered seven hits over nine innings, in addition to striking out nine and not walking any.
His home run came in the eighth inning off Cedar Rapids reliever Patrick Weigal. It provided the final run of the game.
Cedar Rapids starter Ranger Suarez actually matched Lambert zero for zero for the first five innings.
Suarez exited for the bottom of the sixth in favor of Jose Alvarado.
Not too long after, the shutout was gone.
Rhys Hoskins opened the inning by reaching on an error by third baseman RJ Teijeiro.
After a flyout by Andrew Benintendi, Hoskins moved to second on a wild pitch and later found third on a Larry Ernesto single.
A walk to Jared Thomas loaded the bases, and brought Thomas Burrows into the game.
On Burrows' fourth pitch. VIdal Burjan cranked his first homer of the season -- a 341-foot grand slam over the wall in left field -- to put St. Louis up 4-0.
The Walkers ravaged the Cedar Rapids' bullpen for four more runs in the seventh.
Bo Bichette got it started with a lead-off homer off Evan Palmer.

Two straight walks followed before Ernesto made it 5-0 with a double.
Thomas greeted Weigel with a double, this one of the two-run variety.
