Walkers news: July 8 -- St. Louis 5, Cedar Rapids 1

Record: 47-35, 1st, 3.5 GA Des Moines
Making a start in place of the injured Alex Faedo, Argenis Batista got the job done limiting Cedar Rapids to one run over six innings to lead St.Louis to a 5-1 win and a three-game sweep of the Golden Grapplers at Busch Stadium (1997).
Banished from the rotation after starting the season 2-7, Batista allowed just the one run on two hits during his time on the mound against Cedar Rapids. He also struck out five and walked none.
The River Walkers took control of the game by scoring three times in the bottom of the third inning.
Making his first major league start, Clay Owens got it going with a lead-off homer off Grapplers starter Sean Harp.
Owens scored when Bo Bichette followed with another double.
St. Louis would eventually load the bases.
Andrew Benintendi unloaded them with a two-run single.
St. Louis added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
A homer from Larry Ernesto off Zach Schellenger provided the run int the fifth.
Bo Bichette led off the sixth with a single off Evan Palmer and later scored on a Jean Carmona sacrifice fly.
Luis Palomo worked a scoreless seventh inning.
The eighth and ninth belonged to rookie Angel Tiburcio, who also kept the Grapplers off the board.
