Bert Wakefield
Seamheads.com indicates that Bert Wakefield's Negro Leagues career was limited to two seasons of playing first base -- 1900 with the Chicago Unions and 1901 with the Chicago Union Giants. However, THE NEGRO LEAGUES BOOK, by Dick Clark and Larry Lester, showed a more expansive career for Wakefield, running from 1895 to 1902, with a 1915 appearance thrown in to boot. Additional teams included the Kansas City Giants, Salina and Emporia (Kansas State League), and Algone (IA) Brownies.
The photo comes from Seamheads.com, and shows Wakefield with the 1908 Kansas City Giants. The larger Kansas City team photo appears in Robert Retort's PICTORIAL NEGRO LEAGUE LEGENDS ALBUM. Retort obtained it from the Hall of Fame Library in Cooperstown.
