An article in the Oregon Journal, which was a Portland Newspaper, on 6/4 said that the Portland team had accepted the Red Sox offer for Rodgers and it was believed that Rodgers was already in Boston. Rodgers had not yet signed a contract with the Red Sox, but if it was accurate that he was already in Beantown, there was certainly ample time for him to don a Red Sox uniform and be photographed in it before 6/7. The negotiations between Portland and the Red Sox over Rodgers had begun as early as May 26, when a headline stated "Bill Rodgers To Go To Boston."
