In the top of the eighth, down by two, the Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Steinfeldt hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to one. Chance then scored the tying run when Sheckard grounded into the 3-6 fielder's choice. Slagle was next and he put the Cubs in the lead with a two-out two-run double. Tinker followed with an RBI single to make it a five-run inning.

In the top of the ninth, Steinfeldt added the icing to the cake with a two-out RBI single.

The Cubs recorded 11 hits in the victory.

Final score: Chicago 7 Cincinnati 3.
