Jimmy Lambert and a pair of relievers combined on a shutout, and St. Louis finally broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the River Walkers downed Twin Cities 2-0 at Busch Stadium (1997).
Lambert worked 7.1 innings, scattering six hits while striking out four and walking one.
Williams Jerez came on to relieve him after he retired the lead-off hitter in the eighth.
Jerez had no issue with the next two batters, sending it to the bottom of the eighth when St. Louis finally scored.
Pinch-hitter Edmond Americaan reached on a one-out single off Snow Cats reliever Bruce DeWett.
A Jean Camona bunt moved Americaan to second.
A walk to Carlos Vidal put two runners aboard, and Rhys Hoskins drove in the game's first run when he followed with a single.
Andrew Benintendi kept it going with another single, putting St. Louis up 2-0.
Edwin Diaz sent Twin Cities down in order in the ninth fior his 27th save.
Jerez (3-1) was the winning pitcher.
