In the top of the fifth, Beckley hit a one-out single to give the Cardinals their first baserunner of the game. Beckley went on to score on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the fifth, Evers tied the game with a two-out RBI single. Chance then brought Evers home with a double to give the Cubs the lead. Schulte followed with a single to score Chance.
After six: Chicago 3 St Louis 1.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Cubs loaded the bases with nobody out. Steinfeldt grounded into the 4-2 fielder's choice for the first out. Sheckard grounded to first but brought Chance home with an insurance run in the process.
The Cubs out-hit the Cardinals 10-3 to get the win.
