Walkers news: Sept. 16 -- St. Louis 1, Cedar Rapids 0, Game 1
Record: 84-61, 1st, 6 GA Des Moines
Andrew Benintendi scored on a Jose Leclerc wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give St. Louis a 1-0 win over Cedar Rapids at Busch Stadium (1997).
Benintendi reached base on a one-out single off Leclerc in the ninth.
Leclerc struck out pinch-hitter Clay Owens for the second out, but Carlos Vidal and Larry Ernesto both reached on infield singles to load the bases.
Jared Thomas stepped to the plate and the second pitch he saw from Leclerc eluded Golden Grapplers catcher Noah Naylor allowing Benintendi to cross the plate.
St. Louis rookie starter Jason Froelich worked seven shutout innings, allowing two hits. He struck out three and walked five.
Angel Tiburcio worked a scoreless seventh inning.
Williams Jerez recorded the first two outs of the eighth, only to see Cedar Rapids put two runners aboard.
Luis Palomo got the call and struck out Jerrion Ealy to end the inning.
That would set Palomo (1-0) up to earn his first win of the season.
