In the top of the first, Grady put the Cardinals on the board with a two-out RBI triple.
In the bottom of the second, the Cubs got two runs home when McBride made a bad throw to first after fielding a Kling grounder. The Cubs got their first runs before they got their first hit.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kling brought Slagle home from second with a single.
In the top of the fifth, the Cardinals loaded the bases with one out. Smoot grounded into the 3-1 fielder's choice to bring McBride home from third. But that's all the Cardinals would get.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Cubs answered when Sheckard hit a two-out RBI double. With a runner on second and two out, Charlie Rhodes took the mound for the Cubs and got the final out of the inning.
In the top of the sixth, Pfiester struck out the side.
In the bottom of the sixth, Pfiester contributed to the offensive output with an RBI single. The Cubs went on to load the bases with two out. But Rhodes struck out Steinfeldt to get out of the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jack W Taylor took the mound for the Cardinals.
