Walkers news: Sept. 20 -- St. Louis 6, Des Moines 5, 12 innings

Pinch-hitter Edmond Americaan led off the bottom of the 12th inning with a home run off Des Moines relief pitcher Vladimir Gutierrez to give St. Louis a 6-5 win at Busch Stadium (1997).
Americaan smacked the third pitch he saw from Gutierrez 411 feet over the wall in right-center field as he helped the River Walkers avoid dropping all four games of their series with the Harvesters.
St. Louis leads Des Moines by 4.5 games in the National League North Division standings with 12 games left in the regular season.
The Harvesters actually jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Walkers rallied.
St. Louis drew even at 5-5 by scoring three times in the bottom of the ninth.
Fernando Tatis Jr. led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Larry Ernesto ground out.
Jared Thomas later doubled and scored when Jean Carmona hit a two-run homer.
All of the damage came against Harvesters closer Omar Benitez.
Jarron Silva hit a two-run homer off St. Louis starter Jason Froelich in the top of the second to highlight a three-run inning for Des Moines.
John Lehto led off the fifth with a homer off Froelich to make it 4-0.
Thairo Estrada led off the sixth with a double off Froelich and later scored on a Carlos David Rodriguez ground out as the Des Moines lead reached 5-0.
The Walkers began their comeback in the seventh when Rhys Hoskins hit a solo homer off Harvesters starter Zach Davies.
Jared Thomas led off the eighth with a double off Juan Amezquita and later scored on a Vidal Brujan single to make it 5-2.
Froeliich exited after faciing one batter in the sixth, overall he pitched five innings allowing five runs on eight hits.
John Curtiss walked the only batter he faced in the sixth. Ricky Cisneros stepped in to finish the inning.
Those two were followed to the mound by NIck Lodolo (2.0 IP), Edwin Diaz (1.0), Derek Gordon (2.0) and Jake Brentz (1.0).
Brentz earned his third win of the season.
