In the top of the third, Grady tied the game with a two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Tinker put the Cubs in the lead with an RBI double. Tinker would be thrown out at home by Smoot when he tried to score from second on a two-out Wicker single.

In the top of the eighth, the Cardinals loaded the bases with nobody out. Smoot lined to short for the first out. Grady grounded into the 1-2 fielder's choice for the second out. Beckley then popped out to third and the Cardinals had failed to score.

In the top of the ninth, the Cardinals went down in order and the Cubs had won their eighth straight.

Final score: Chicago 2 St Louis 1.
