In the top of the first, Williams put the Yankees on the board with an RBI double. Tino Martinez scored from third when O'Neill grounded to short.

In the top of the second, Brosius hit a 334 foot solo home run.

In the bottom of the second, Cone struck out the side.

In the top of the third, O'Neill brought a run in with a sacrifice fly. The Yankees went on to load the bases with two out. But Brosius flew out to right to retire the side.

In the bottom of the third, Rodriguez put the Mariners on the board with a two-out 412 foot solo home run.

In the bottom of the fourth, Cone struck out the side again.

In the top of the fifth, O'Neill hit a two-out solo shot 369 feet.

In the bottom of the fifth, Davis hit a solo shot 377 feet.

In the top of the sixth, with runners at first and second and one out, Paul Spoljaric took the mound for the Mariners and got Jeter to ground into the double play to retire the side.

In the top of the sixth, Rodriguez led off with his second homer of the game, this one went 390 feet. Edgar Martinez made it a one-run game with an RBI double. With the tying run at second and nobody out, Graeme Lloyd took the mound for the Yankees. Griffey tied the game with an RBI double. The Mariners went on to load the bases with nobody out. Davis brought Griffey home with the go-ahead run when he grounded into the 4-3 fielder's choice. An intentional walk reloaded the bases with one out. But Wilson grounded into the 5-4-3 to end the inning.

After six: Seattle 6 New York 5.

In the top of the seventh, the Yankees loaded the bases with two out. Curtis then drew a walk to force in the tying run. Brosius then grounded to first to retire the side.

In the top of the eighth, Jeter put the Yankees back in the lead with a 372 foot solo home run. With a runner on first and two out, Bobby Ayala took the mound for the Mariners.

In the bottom of the eighth, Segui led off with a game-tying 349 foot homer. With runners at first and second and one out, Jeff Nelson took the mound for the Yankees. Rodriguez singled to load the bases with one out. Cora grounded into the 3-2 fielder's choice for the second out. Edgar Martinez put the Mariners in the lead with a two-run double. Cora then scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the ninth, Mike Timlin took the mound for the Mariners. With runners at first and second and one out, Girardi grounded into the game-ending 6-4-3.

The two teams combined for 28 hits.

Final score: Seattle 10 New York 7.
