Post Week 1. (2-1)

W,(3-2) @Citi Field
The first game of the new season was a complete nailbiter. We beat the Mets at Citi Field by 3-2. The top two pitchers in the National League of the last few years (Scherzer and deGrom) faced in a great matchup. Max went 6.1 innings, allowed 2 earned runs, both came off a homer in the 4th by Wilson Ramos, and punched out 7. Jacob deGrom went the distance as he threw 111 pitches in 8 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Our bullpen had a good game as Suero, Rainey, Doolittle, and Harris (who earned his first save in a Nationals uniform) contained the Mets to just two runners in the final 2.2 innings. Our offense was commanded by Juan Soto and Eric Thames (the #3 and #4 hole hitters). Soto went 2 for 3 with the go-ahead RBI and a walk and Thames went deep off deGrom in the 4th with a runner on base. The leadoff hitter was Eaton and Turner batted second as I want to give the lineup a little more balanced in the left and righty department. As a fan of defensive substitutions, I am glad to see that our manager made several at the bottom of the 9th.

L, (5-6) @ Citi Field
The team came up swinging as we scored 4 runs in the first inning vs Noah Syndergaard thanks to four doubles from Tuner, Soto, Kendrick, and Cabrera. Nevertheless, Patrick Corbin, who took the ball for the second game of the series struggled as he gave up 5 runs in 5.1 innings. We were tied coming to the 8th but a run-scoring single from Guillorme vs Will Harris helped the Mets clinch their first W of the season. Jake Marinisk, the new center fielder of the Mets, was named player of the game. He had a 4 for 4 game with 3 RBI´s.

W, (5-0) @Citi Field
Behind the 2019 World Series MVP, Stephen Strasburg, we had our first shutout win of the season. Strasburg threw a complete game, the first pitcher of the 2020 season to do so, and allowed only one hit ( a bunt to Marinisck in the third) while punching out 7. On the offensive side, Adam Eaton had a leadoff homer against Marcus Stroman, his first of the year. Starlin Castro made his debut for us and went 2 for 5. The team batted Stroman around and he only lasted 3.2 innings and gave up the only 5 runs scored in the game.
