In the top of the second, Avila put the Indians on the board with a two-out RBI single. A walk followed to load the bases but Rosen flew to left to retire the side.
In the top of the third, Strickland picked up a two-out RBI triple.
In the bottom of the third, Doby threw Hunter out at home as he tagged up and tried to score on a Diering fly ball.

In the top of the fourth, the Indians again loaded the bases with two out. But Hegan grounded to first to retire the side.
In the top of the fifth, Avila doubled the Indians lead with a two-run single. Smith added a two-out RBI single. And Philley did the same. A walk loaded the bases with two out once again. Dave Koslo took the mound for the Orioles. Strickland drove in a pair with a single to make it a six-run inning.
In the top of the sixth, pinch hitter Dave Pope launched a two-out solo home run 386 feet.
After six: Cleveland 9 Baltimore 0.
In the top of the eighth, Diering threw Hank Majeski out at home as he tried to score from second on a Jim Dyck single. Smith hit a two-out RBI double.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Orioles avoided the shutout when Courtney hit a three-run homer with two out 409 feet.
The Indians racked up 15 hits in the win and drew 10 walks.
