Record: 92-69, 1st, NL South clinched; Tied with Madison for best NL record
Juan Sandoval handled the first 4.2 innings and a trio of reliever did the rest as Kansas City shutout St. Louis for the second consecutive game 6-0 at Busch Stadium (1997).
The loss was the fourth in a row for the River Walkers, and the third time they have been shutout.
Sandoval worked the first 4.2 innings, scattering five hits.
Noah Murdock got the final out of the fifth inning.
The sixth and seventh belonged to Kyle Nelson (8-6), who earned the win. Archie Bradley took care of the eighth and ninth.
The Pit Masters took control with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning against St. Louis rookie starter Jason Froelich.
Sandoval started it with a two-out double, and he scored when Greg Jones followed with a single.
A walk to Danny Cushing moved Jones to second.
Josh Shuler scored Jones with a single.
Shuler had the big blow in a three-run fifth, with a two-run homer off Froelich.
Nander De Sedas had opened the inning with a walk and scored on a Cushing sacrifice fly.
Shuler followed with his long ball.
An RBI single from Kylon Tye off reliever Luis Palomo in the seventh made it 6-0.
