Coming off an injury-shortened season in 1976, 40-year old two-time Pitcher of the Year award winner Jaime Schardein is apparently eager to prove he still has some life left in that magical right arm of his. And the L.A. Spinners made a commitment yesterday to let him try in a Spinners uniform, signing him to a two-year deal.
It's something of a homecoming for Schardein, who pitched for L.A. from 1968 through 1971 and won the 2nd of his 2 consecutive Pitcher of the Year awards as a Spinner in '68.
