It appears that the Washington Night Train are intent on signalling their intention to compete to over-take the reigning SJL champs Columbus in the 1977 season.
Having earlier signed starting pitcher Art Ferrante (talented, a great leader, but fragile!) to a 7-year deal, yesterday they scored probably the biggest name in this year's free agent market when they inked Felix Lopez to a 4-year deal. The Night Train will be the third team Lopez has played for in his career and this will be the first time Lopez will compete in the SJL, after 5 seasons in Oklahoma City and 7 in Brooklyn. Lopez will be taking the place of 29-year old Lazaro Lowndes, who himself is on the market after having spent the first 11 seasons of his career in a Night Train uniform.
