Yesterday the results of this year's WPK Hall of Fame voting were released, and once again no players are bound for Dubuque. (The WPK Hall of Fame was established a number of years ago along the banks of the Mississippi in Dubuque, Iowa.)
In fact, only three players were eligible and none gained enough votes to remain on the ballot next year. The player who got the most votes was former L.A. great, Miguel Chavez, who led the MGL in wins in 1967 at the age of 35. Chavez was not only a great pitcher but one of the more well-liked players around the league and one can only imagine what might have been if the league had started when he was a bit younger, but as it is he just didn't have enough time to put up the kind of career that is Hall worthy. Still, he will be fondly remembered far into the future.
Former Brewer slugger Mark Compton, who spent the majority of his career in L.A. also, finished a distant second in the voting.
