In the top of the first, the Cubs loaded the bases with two out. But Tinker flew to left to leave them stranded.

In the top of the second, Hofman put the Cubs on the board with a two-out RBI single. Burch would later throw Hofman out at home as he tried to score from second on a Schulte single.

In the top of the third, the Cubs again loaded the bases with two out. But Brown grounded to third to retire the side.

After three: Chicago 1 St Louis 0.

In the top of the fourth, Steinfeldt scored from third when Schulte grounded to second.

In the bottom of the fourth, Grady scored from third on a Bennett infield single to put the Cardinals on the board.

After six: Chicago 2 St Louis 1.

In the top of the seventh, Sheckard got an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the eighth, Charlie Rhodes took the mound for the Cardinals.

In the top of the ninth, the Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Evers brought a run home with a sacrifice fly. Tinker followed with a two-out double that scored one run but Sheckard was thrown out at home trying to score from first.

The Cubs got 11 hits in the win.

Final score: Chicago 5 St Louis 1.
