Steam obviously patches your game automatically, which is a major plus (and the game *is* patched regularly).
The usual argument brought up against Steam is that it takes a bigger cut from the developers than their service partner for direct order. I continue to call bollocks on that one. If the developers didn't make money off Steam, they wouldn't offer the game there in the first place.
The other argument against Steam is that they could just revoke your account and you lose all your games. However, show me somebody that had that happen to them and who didn't deserve it ...
