Finally, a non-catcher gets the award! Bendig has been top of the home run charts all season so no surprise to see him get the award after he stepped his game up in June. It was the simple things that have made the difference, converting a few strikeouts into singles has seen him take his season OPS from .900 up above 1.000.
For the third month in a row, a Dustland Sharks pitcher takes this award. He's been content to play second-fiddle to Jaxon Darnall this season but he really stepped on the balls in June. He halved his home run rate, took his walk rate down a third, and got a 20% increase in his strikeouts. The result is that over 52 innings of work, he only gave up 5 earned runs.
At 5'5" and 150lbs, Stubbins is the smallest player in the league but he certainly made some big noise this month.
