In the bottom of the first, Magee put the Phillies on the board with an RBI double.
In the top of the second, Storke put the Pirates in the lead with a two-out two-run double. Storke injured his leg sliding into second and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Ward Miller.
In the bottom of the third, Doolan tied the game with a two-out RBI single. Dooin followed with his own RBI single to put the Phillies back in the lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bransfield added to the Phillies lead with a two-out RBI single.
In the top of the fifth, Clarke hits his 189th triple of his career, to move him to 5th on the all-time list.

In the top of the seventh, Wagner made it a one-run game with a two-out RBI single.
In the bottom of the eighth, Knabe delivered a run-scoring single to put the lead back at two.
In the top of the ninth, Leach picked up an RBI on an infield single to make it a one-run game once again. The Pirates went on to load the bases with one out. Dots Miller tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the ninth, Chick Brandon took the mound for the Pirates. With the winning run at second and two out, Osborn grounded to short to send the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Lefty Leifield took the mound for the Pirates. With runners at first and second and two out, Bransfield singled but Titus was thrown out at home trying to score from second by Leach to end the inning.
In the top of the twelfth, Tully Sparks took the mound for the Phillies. Gibson gave the Pirates the lead back with a two-out RBI double.
In the bottom of the twelfth, Osborn scored from second when Wagner made a throwing error after fielding a Dooin grounder. With the winning run at second and two out, pinch hitter Dave Shean flew to center to end the inning.
In the top of the thirteenth, Frank Corridon took the mound for the Phillies.
In the bottom of the thirteenth, Deacon Phillippe took the mound for the Pirates. Magee drew his fourth walk of the game to set an NL record in an extra-inning game. With runners at second and third and two out, Osborn ended the game with an infield single.
The two teams combined for 26 hits in the contest. The Pirates committed 7 errors leading to three unearned runs.
