In the bottom of the fourth, Raines put the Yankees on the board with a two-out RBI double.

In the top of the fifth, Cruz scored on a two-out passed ball.

In the top of the sixth, Fletcher added a two-out RBI single to the Blue Jays lead. The Blue Jays went on to load the bases with two out before Crespo grounded to third to retire the side.

In the top of the eighth, Green led off with a 429 foot homer.

In the top of the ninth, Mariano Rivera took the mound for the Yankees.

In the bottom of the ninth, Randy Myers took the mound for the Blue Jays. Raines hit his third double of the game to tie an AL record. Brosius brought Raines home with a two-out double. The Yankees went on to load the bases with two out. Knoblauch singled to score a run and the Yankees suddenly had a chance. But Jeter grounded to short to end the game.

The Yankees got 11 hits in the loss and Cone struck out 1p in a losing effort.

Final score: Toronto 5 New York 3.
