The Yankees will conclude their short series in Texas tonight with a game against the Rangers. The Yankees have won six straight.

The Yankees activated RF Paul O'Neill from the disabled list.

In the top of the first, Martinez put the Yankees on the board with authority as he mashed a 371 foot three-run homer. Brosius added an RBI double. Knoblauch scored when Curtis grounded to short. The Yankees batted around the order and put up five runs in the first.

In the bottom of the first, Greer put the Rangers on the board with a two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Rodriguez scored on a two-out passed ball. David Wells left the game with a leg injury after getting the third out.

After three: New York 5 Texas 2.

In the top of the fourth, Jeter added to the Yankees lead with an RBI triple. Raines brought Jeter home with a double to put the lead back at five. Martinez then brought Raines home with a single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ramiro Mendoza took the mound for the Yankees. With runners at second and two out, Mendoza left the game with a shoulder injury. Jason Grimsley took the mound for the Yankees and got Elster to ground out to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Posada helped the Yankees pour it on with a two-out RBI double.

In the top of the sixth, with a runner on first and two out, Jason Isringhausen took the mound for the Rangers.

In the bottom of the sixth, Stevens hit a two-out RBI single. A walk followed to load the bases with two out. But Goodwin lined to first to end the inning.

After six: New York 9 Texas 3.

In the bottom of the seventh, with runners at the corners and nobody out, Graeme Lloyd took the mound for the Yankees. Gonzalez brought the two runners home with a double and the Rangers had some life.

In the top of the eighth, with runners at first and second and one out, Eric Gunderson took the mound for the Rangers and got Martinez to ground into a double play.

In the top of the ninth, John Wetteland took the mound for the Rangers.

In the bottom of the ninth, Mariano Rivera took the mound for the Yankees. Greer hit a two-out RBI double. With runners at the corners and two out, Clark flew to right to end the game.

The two teams combined for 30 hits in the contest.

Final score: New York 9 Texas 6.
