The Confidence Man Minute with Travis Miles

This is a transcript from Travis Miles’ post-game sign off of Game Three of the DCR Series of the Week.

The name of the game this weekend was offense, with two of the three games having a winner scoring at least 15 runs and one loser scoring 10. I knew coming into the weekend that Valentine Detective Agency Field is a live-action extravaganza, and it lent many moments of excitement.

In the end, the Starlight Lady Killers came out on top of the series, though the Concord Radstags avoided the sweep by exploding on offense today. The Lady Killers will stay in the hunt for the division crown at 5-5, though they came into today one game behind the Abernathy Adamantium.

For the Radstags, there are certainly a lot of takeaways for them. They have a lot of power, but the person who has surprised the most so far with his power has been leadoff man Ricky Ticky Laughy who leads the team with six home runs. That sixth came in the fifth inning today when he connected with the bases loaded for a grand slam. The game was already 7-0 at the time of the blast, so it did not blow the game open, but it was an exciting play nonetheless.

The Killers had plenty of production of their own. Though they are not hitting a lot of home runs, despite their home field's short left-field movie screen, they are most certainly using that screen to their advantage, registering a .336 team batting average. That will keep them in a lot of games once they start stringing together hits to produce more runs. Tops so far has been their leadoff man, Glenn Higinbotham with a .453 average, a home run, and four runs batted in. He also has stolen all four bases the Killers have stolen this season.

Next week, we have a scheduled trip to The Stone House where we will watch the Quincy Gunners take on the visiting Atom Cats. It is bound to be a groovy weekend near the quarry.
