27 April 2296 – Two University Point Players Scrap
University Point Deathclaws first baseman Jeremy Nicholson and catcher Chad Morris got into an altercation following practice on Monday.
Apparently, both were upset at each other while practicing bunting drills on defense. Nicholson continuously criticized Morris’ throws to first in early drills. Morris then fielded a ball meant for Nicholson in which Nicholson shoved Morris to the ground. The two had to be separated.
After practice, Nicholson said something to Morris and then punched him in the nose, breaking Morris’ nose. Nicholson also injured his wrist on the punch. Both players were separated by teammates and sent off to be treated.
Team player-coach Cricket McGuire spoke about the incident to one of our correspondents. “We had an unfortunate incident between two of our players. One of them, Nicholson, assaulted the other, Morris. They will both be out for some time for injury, and we’re considering either suspending Nicholson or fining him his paycheck until Morris gets back.
“The thing is that we need both of these guys to continue to compete. Nicholson has to learn to contain his temper, or he won’t be here long.”
Backup Dan Ackerman is expected to take over first base and Mass Rozelle will take over catcher for the Deathclaws when they take on the Goodneighbor Hancocks this weekend. University Point does not have any other catchers on the roster, so they may need to make a roster move.
