I would imagine that an NHL GM would have influence on what his coach does. I'm not talking about full control, I don't want that. I want to be able to say "Such and such player is upset that he's not getting playing time, please try to play him more because he's our future and I don't want his development to suffer."
Just one example. I don't want to make full decisions, I find it fun to let the coach do his thing. Maybe a coach with higher Self-Preservation would be more likely to do what you want regardless if he thinks it hurts the team because he wants to make you happy.... I don't know, but again, I doubt a coach in the NHL completely ignores what his GM is trying to do with the build of the team.
I just want the ability to "talk" to my coach.
