So, my depth chart looks like this

LW - Star, Young to be Superstar, Depth, Depth (let my solid 3rd line go due to S$)
C - Star, Solid #2, Solid #3, Depth
RW - Star, Young Star, Young Star, Depth

I was very happy with my composition, but somewhat fighting the salary cap, so didn't mind using rookies and cheap vets lower in the lineup.

Now comes the preseason where I have around 30 players since I want to see who the best depth guys are for my bottom roles. In a SINGLE game, the coach used my young LW stud on RW... this was the absolute first time in his career in the pros where he had a game on the right side. Remember that this is the PRE season.

I get an email following the game saying that he now considers RW to be his may position.

This single move has absolutely ruined my team. One of my young RW stars is now seeing 8 mins a game on the 4th line while I had to pick up a LW off waivers to give me someone decent to play on the second line, and this put me over the cap, and the only reason I am now able to stay under is due to injuries to high salary players.

One of my young RW stars is a 19 at center, so I tried running just 3 centers since he's better than my #3 guy. I've tried running with only two LW to get the coach to move one of my RWs to the left. Even if I change the position played, the coach just ignores that and puts him to his "20" position.

So, forwards wise, now I have 4 of my top 7 as RW and the coach refuses to see that and plays much lesser players double the time my young RW star gets. Is there anyway I can fix this without having to trade one away to shore up my left side..
There is 100% no way that a single game transformed your LW to a RW. He clearly had some ability there already.

The more flexible players are, the better. When you choose not to coach, you're not in control of players, so you're going to have to trade or take over head coaching roles.
