16 May 2296 - Celebratory Shot Backfires
The Quincy Gunners had a lot to celebrate this week. Following their 10-3 victory over the Jamaica Plain Treasures, the Gunners completed a sweep to raise their record to 9-12.
Quincy fans were so excited for the victory that one shot off a celebratory harpoon gun after the victory. Unfortunately, one Quincy player, reliever Michael Thawt, stood in the landing path of the harpoon, leaving him impaled to the right-field wall of The Stone House.
It took a couple of hours to remove Thawt from the wall and transport him to the Quincy Hospital. Though he is expected to live at this time thanks to blood packs available at the field, Thawt is considered to be in critical condition and will miss some time.
On the season, Thawt has appeared in four games, allowing two earned runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA.
The fan in the stands was questioned about the incident, but the incident was ruled to be an accident. Quincy owner Smiling Larry decided after the incident to ban all weapons from the stadium except baseball bats. Before the incident, firearms and explosives were not allowed, but other firing weapons like harpoon guns and fireworks were allowed. Those are now also banned, as well as brass knuckles, sledgehammers, swords, knives, and boxing gloves. Smiling Larry said bats would still be allowed in case fans wanted players to sign them.
The fan was also banned from all Quincy home games.
