Browns' Co-Managers 1951
These two fellows were part of a Bill Veeck stunt on August 24, 1951 when he arranged for the Browns' fans to make the managerial decisions during the major league game by holding up placards saying yes or no on key options. Mitze and Hughes, fans themselves, were chosen to be the co-managers for the day, and to lead the rest of the fans in the decision process. Veeck had wanted to station them on the field and in the dugout like a normal manager, but the umpires ruled that they would have to sit in the grandstand. The current manager of the Browns, Zach Taylor, was around in case he was needed for an emergency situation.
