WRVR Week 13 Series Recap

The IV Bag with George, Anne, and Rex

G: Welcome everybody to today's random junkpile post-series broadcast. I am your host George Cooper. Joining me today are Anne Hargraves and Rex Goodman. And you are listening to "The IV Bag." We watched in our first morning start of the season as The Slog Ghouls defeated the East Boston Prep Assaultrons 11-4. With the win, the Ghouls avoided being swept and pick up their record to 20-19, just half a game back of second place with the Salem Witch Hats who are trying for the sweep this afternoon at Nordhagen Beach. The Assaultrons drop to 18-21, which will leave them in fifth place in the Brotherhood League, but they are only four-and-a-half games back of first place Finch Farm who are trying to avoid being swept at County Crossing.

Anne and Rex, we have an exciting evening planned at Easy City Downs tonight, so let's jump straight to our weekly awards. Take it away, Anne.

A: Thank you, George. Yesterday's game was the only one we saw where the first team to score ever trailed, meaning we only had one come-from-behind victory this weekend. These baseball bums were hardly ever on the tail end of defeat; therefore, let's be creative with our Bottoms Up Award. That will go to the go-ahead hit in Game Two when the Assaultrons ended up winning 10-7 after a late Slog push.

Trailing 3-2 at the time in the bottom of the fourth, Frank Clawdodger hit an RBI single to tie the game. With two outs and the bases loaded, Joe Ransom hit a two-RBI single off The Slog starter Gary Estate. That hit ended up chasing Estate from the game and putting East Boston Prep on top for good. Therefore, Joe Ransom is this week's Bottoms Up Award winner!

R: I rue the moment when baseball will cease to exist for a time in the tides of August. Yes, yes, playoff baseball will discover its feverish pace, but there are only two from each division moving on. Therefore, we lose two-thirds of the hearts and souls of teams fighting for another day. The Slog may be one of those teams that are close but minus their San Francisco Sunlights. Therefore, this week I nominate and reward The Slog's left fielder, Po Greenzone, for the Sportiest Sport award. He took the bat on his shoulders and swung the Ghouls to victory today with three hits and three runs batted in.

G: Thank you both. Let me now tell this week’s show with the Outstanding Player of the Series. That player is Jarrett Metalboz of East Boston Prep. For the weekend, he had six hits in 13 at bats. Two of those hits were doubles and another was a home run. He scored six times and knocked in five, as well as walking once.

This week's show was brought to you by Easy City Downs. "When you're in town, settle down with Easy City Downs." I've got my money on The Boston Blaster tonight. What about you Anne and Rex?

A: Let me see the card. Based on the names, I'm not sure. Maybe I'll root for Lady Lovelace.

R: I shall place my money on the one that speaks of the arts and passion. Since the references of all these racing robots are beyond my base of knowledge, my random finger point tells me it will be Iron Maiden. Excellent.

G: This will do it for "The IV Bag" with the Charles River Trio. Our destination next week is University Point when the Deathclaws take on the Quincy Gunners, who I believe are being featured on Diamond City Radio this week. Our game is the first complete today, so we know going into today that Quincy is 18-20 and the Deathclaws are 19-19. It looks like that will be a matchup for trying to work their way up into second place since the Warwick Mirelurks are currently 26-12.

Before we head to the tracks, let’s close out this week’s show with Billie Holliday and "Crazy He Calls Me": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mitLcbHHz8
