The Light Bulb with Anne, Rex, and George
A: Week 14 of the CBO season is in the books and on the radio and in the holotapes. Today we saw the Quincy Gunners win the game and the series, 7-1, over the University Point Gunners. Both teams are now 21-21 on the season, which puts them in a third-place tie in the Minutemen League heading into next week.
Rex and George, who were your standout players for the weekend?
R: Droves upon droves, Anne. And of course, I love to name my Sportiest Sport. Typically, I select the player who showed grit and determination in a losing effort. To me, that player was the one who boosted his team, University Point, to a blowout victory in Game 2. Pitcher William Radwater not only pitched his team to victory but he also hit them there. He pitched a complete-game victory with four runs allowed, three of which were earned. He also had two hits, including a double, scored three times, and contributed two runs batted in. He was not the Game MVP, but he is my Sportiest Sport.
G: My top pitcher this week is an easy one. In today’s 7-1 win, Quincy pitcher Manny McDuff only allowed one run on five hits in eight innings. He improved his record to 5-5 on the season, and he by far had the most dominant pitching performance.
A: Thank you both, gentlemen. I will now name the Outstanding Player of the Week. This wonderful guy is the left fielder for the Gunners, Andrew Nuka. In the three games combined, he was 6 for 11 with two home runs, four runs scored, and three runs batted in. He also walked three times for a .643 on-base percentage for the weekend.
That will finish up "The Oven Mitt." Next week we will travel to the Railroad League where we will watch Egret travel to Shaw High School. Going into today’s matchup, the Scrappers are 24-17 and in second place. The Knuckle Punchers are not as good, standing in sixth place by a lot and with the worst record in the CBO at 10-31. They will try to gain a game on Vault 81 tonight.
We all know Nuka is a wonderful guy, so let’s finish this show by playing Claire Chatwin singing “A Wonderful Guy.” Take us away, Claire:
