The Gold Watch with George, Anne, and Rex
G: Welcome all to "The Gold Watch." I am your host George Cooper. Joining me today are Anne Hargraves and Rex Goodman. Our final score in this mid-afternoon finish is the Egret Scrappers 9 and the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai 7. The Scrappers avoid being swept at home and move back to a game ahead of the Yao Guai with today's win. That means that Egret is in sole possession of second place in the Railroad League, while the Yao Guai fall back into sole possession of third.
Anne and Rex, tell me all about your take on this weekend's match up. But before you do that, let me mention that this matchup happened at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. Our sponsor for this series has been Fallon's Department Store. Make plans to travel to Fallon's Department Store right across from Milton General Hospital on your next trip south. Come before the end of July, and you can get half off your first gold watch. That's Fallon's Department Store, east of Egret Tours Marina and south of Fairline Hill Estates, right across from Milton General Hospital.
A: I love Fallon's! This cream dress I'm wearing today came from there. I also got this silver locket.
R: They are as elegant as you, Madame Anne.
G: Yes, they are. Well, let's go ahead and jump into the awards. As we mentioned, the Yao Guai took two of three this series. Are we trending back towards the winning team for awards this week, or will it be similar to last weekend's game where the losing team swept the awards?
This week's show was brought to you by Easy City Downs. "When you're in town, settle down with Easy City Downs." I've got my money on The Boston Blaster tonight. What about you Anne and Rex?
A: We will have to see. We only had two lead changes all weekend, and neither came after the fifth inning. Since today's game was the later of the two comebacks. and since the last inning of scoring was in the bottom of the fifth, I am going to award the Bottoms Up Award to a player for the Scrappers. That player is Slosh Nicklepenny. With two outs in the fifth and the score tied at 5-5, Nicklepenny delivered an RBI single to score two runs and give Egret the 7-5 lead, which turned out to be the final score. Congratulations to Mr. Slosh Nicklepenny. I love your name and bottoms up to you!
R: Nicklepenny reminds me of a bit villain in an O'Doyle piece. All pomp with the right amount of circumstance. To follow, I am in charge of our Sportiest Sport. Now, since a player from the losing team is the usual suspect in this award, I see little occasion to break ranks. Therefore, I will go with the person who led the way for Egret's one win, catcher Tony Tamez. In Game Three, he delivered with three hits in four at bats with two doubles, two runs scored, including the go-ahead sixth run. Also, he had three RBU in thee game. For his efforts in helping his team remain in second place, Tony Tamez is the Sportiest Sport. Also, as I am contracted to add before my time is up, "Shop at Fallon's and make yourself look like a gentleman, even if you are not. Like George and me."
G: Never sell yourself short, Rex. You are a gentleman!
Let me finish up this week's "The Gold Watch" show presented by Fallon's Department Store with the Charles River Trio's Most Outstanding Player Award. Surprise! A player from the winning team this weekend gets the award. That's right. This week's top player goes to the Yao Guai's pitcher in Game 1, Bow Rome. In 8 and 2.3 innings, he allowed two earned runs on nine hits with three walks and six strikeouts. He also added a hit and scored to help himself with the bat.
Well, that will do it. We are playing an afternoon game, so we do not yet know where we are going next weekend. There are not a whole lot of choices. We are close to the WRVR studio from here at Egret Tours Marina, so we are going to keep up with the games today and report from the studio tonight where we will be next week, so stay tuned.
Since we don't know where we're broadcasting, I think it only appropriate that our ending song be Ella Fitzgerald's "Undecided":
