30 July 2296 - G.E.C.K. Sent to Howard from Capital Wasteland

Nate Howard received an interesting anonymous gift this morning via a courier from the Capital Wasteland, the name for the former Washington, D.C. area of the United States.

Howard was sent a Garden of Eden Creation Kit, also known as a G.E.C.K. from pre-War technology. We do not have much information other than a terminal log and information sent with the G.E.C.K. Howard received.

According to the terminal entry we found from a Vault-Tec facility, a G.E.C.K. is "a terraforming device created by Future-Tec, a division of Vault-Tec Corporation, to ease the process of harnessing the post-nuclear wasteland for vault dwellers." It was supposedly created by a Vault-Tec scientist named Doctor Stanislaus Braun. We will try to dig for more information if we can find any or send someone to the Capital Wasteland to try to find out more.

Howard told us that he was going to work with the Institute in analyzing the device and seeing if that technology could be duplicated. He also suggested that he suspected who might have sent the device, though he could not be sure.

According to Howard through a press release: "The G.E.C.K. I received had a note and instructions attached to it. The note said, 'To the S.S. Can't have baseball on all dirt fields. You need a little green in your life. Reverse engineer this, make it SMALL, and then you have the prettiest fields in the land. Good for farming, too. Signed, L.W'"

Howard believes the Institute has the best ability to reverse engineer the G.E.C.K. to form miniature G.E.C.K.s. According to Howard, all 24 baseball fields could then have a plant called grass on them that would make the fields look nicer and make for better baseball.

We at Publick Occurences will update you if there is any progress on the G.E.C.K. front, but the idea of a green baseball field seems foreign yet exciting to us.

30 July 2296 - 4-2 Assaultrons Win over Party Boys Evens Season Record

The East Boston Prep Assaultrons got a good effort from starter Angel Waterdrink in defeating the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Red Rocket Stadium. The final score was 4-2. With the win, East Boston Prep pushed its record to 26-26.

It could have been a different outcome for East Boston Prep, had it not been for Dan Squirrel, the 18-year old right fielder. Squirrel contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put East Boston Prep up, 3-2.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Squirrel. "And not try to do too much."

30 July 2296 - Seaweed Stars for Treasures in 9-6 Win

The 9-6 Jamaica Plain win over Atom was due in large part to David Seaweed. The Treasures right fielder went 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The Treasures raised their record to 16-36.

Aaron Erickson, who is tied for 9th in the in runs scored with 50, chipped in for Jamaica Plain with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the shortstop had 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 4 RBI.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Seaweed.

31 July 2296 - Cartrette at His Best, Blanks County Crossing

Mike Cartrette put on a razor-sharp performance for the Salem Witch Hats against the County Crossing Bloodbugs at The Coven of Salem today. Cartrette fashioned a fine 5-hitter, blanking them 5-0 and chalking up 5 strikeouts and 2 walks.

In season stats Cartrette shows a 4-3 record in 12 games, 74 innings, 54 strikeouts and a 5.23 ERA.

31 July 2296 - Alone Powers Cats Offense

The Atom Cats beat the Jamaica Plain Treasures, 10-6, at The Treasure Box. Atom right fielder Travis Alone had an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Atom raised its record to 31-22 with the win.

The result might have been different, had it not been for Ed Tarberry, the Atom center fielder. Tarberry had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cats ahead, 7-6. For the game, Tarberry had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Alone.

With the win, the Cats also prevented Warwick from clinching the division crown. The Mirelurks currently have a seven-game lead over Atom with seven to play.

31 July 2296 - Assaultrons Lose By a Run at Nordhagen Beach, 5-4

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys defeated the East Boston Prep Assaultrons, 5-4. Doing his part was catcher Dan Neofotistos, who was 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Nordhagen Beach starter Tommy Beach was credited with the win after throwing 100 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 3-3. Earning his 4th save of the year was Sia Abber.

With Nordhagen Beach leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Neofotistos hit a curveball from David Tech for a 2-run double. It was his 4th double of the season and put the Party Boys ahead, 3-0.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Neofotistos said.

Nordhagen Beach is now 23-30, East Boston Prep 26-27.

31 July 2296 - Estate Dominates Finch Farm in 16-0 Whitewash

It wasn't easy but Gary Estate made it look that way.

Estate silenced the Finch Farm Four Leafs, 16-0, in a The Slog Ghouls triumph at Tarberry Field Forever today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Estate said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up 4 walks and 3 hits.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else."

Currently Estate has a 8-5 won-lost record in 16 starts with a 5.10 ERA. He also has 57 strikeouts in 97 innings.

1 August 2296 - Tentsleep Hit String Snapped at 23

After 23 games, The Slog shortstop Lernz Tentsleep saw his hitting streak end when he went hitless in 2 at-bats. However, the Ghouls still managed to take the win, topping the Finch Farm Four Leafs 4-2 at Tarberry Field Forever.

"It was a good run," Tentsleep said after the game. "It was bound to end at some point. I'm just glad we won the day it ended."

In 51 games this year Tentsleep has posted a .309 average and put up these numbers: 9 home runs, 44 RBIs and 52 runs scored.

1 August 2296 - Mart Helps Nordhagen Beach Outscore East Boston Prep

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys defeated the East Boston Prep Assaultrons, 15-10, at Red Rocket Stadium today. Leading the charge for Nordhagen Beach was first baseman Dustin Mart. He went 3-5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Casey Diehl was the winner. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 7 runs on 12 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Nordhagen Beach now sits in 5th place in the Brotherhood League at 24-30.

In the first inning of the game, Mart had a 3-run home run for Nordhagen Beach. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Party Boys on top, 4-1.

"Feels good to get the job done," Mart said after the game.

1 August 2296 - Cats Suffer 14-1 Drubbing

The home crowd had a good time watching the Atom Cats and Jamaica Plain Treasures get after it.

The Jamaica Plain Treasures cruised to a win over the Atom Cats, 14-1, at The Treasure Box. David Seaweed led the way, going 2-for-6 for Jamaica Plain. The Treasures raised their record to 17-37.

Early in the game, Seaweed had a run-scoring double for Jamaica Plain. It was his 20th double of the season and put the Treasures on top, 1-0.

"We got handed a ball of yarn and sent far away," said Atom owner Zeke.

With the afternoon loss by the Cats, Warwick has clinched the Minutemen League title by default. With six games to play for the Cats, they are 7.5 out of first place.

1 August 2296 - Oberland, Warwick Clinch League Crowns

The Oberland T-51s and Warwick Mirelurks may not be playing their best baseball right now, but the two teams have clinched their leagues and will be guaranteed a home series in the first-round of the CBO playoffs.

The Mirelurks clinched the Minutemen League earlier in the day when the second-place Atom Cats fell 14-1 at the hands of last-place Jamaica Plain. Warwick also lost its game today, but at 38-16 with six games to play, the Mirelurks hold a seven-game lead over the Cats, who are 31-23.

Atom could clinch the wildcard spot on Thursday in the ML with a win over University point and losses by Goodneighbor and Quincy. Both the Hancocks and Gunners are tied for third place at 26-28, five games behind the Cats.

Oberland clinched the Railroad League thanks to their 9-5 win at Diamond City tonight. Though the Egret Scrappers gained a game on the T-51s this weekend, the gap was too wide. The T-51s are now 38-16, while the Scrappers are 31-23.

Like Atom, the Scrappers could clinch the wildcard next weekend, though they will need at least two games to do it. Egret swept the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai to increase their wildcard lead from one game to four. The Yao Guai sit in third place at 27-27.

In the Brotherhood League, Finch Farm had a chance to clinch their division crown, but they were swept by The Slog Ghouls who moved up to second place. At 33-21, the Four Leafs still have a five-game advantage over the 28-26 Ghouls with six to play. That means, the Four Leafs could clinch their division, or at least a share of it, on Thursday. Salem and East Boston Prep trail the Ghouls by one and two games, respectively for the wildcard spot.
