DCR Week 18 Series Recap

The Confidence Man Minute with Travis Miles

This is a transcript from Travis Miles’ post-game sign off of Game Three of the DCR Series of the Week.

Hello, baseball fans! From Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina, this is Travis Miles with "The Confidence Man Minute." We watched Railroad League action today in the southwest quadrant as the home-team Egret Scrappers won 7-4 this afternoon and completed the sweep over the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai in the battle for second place.

With the sweep, the Scrappers are now four games up on the Yao Guai for the wildcard spot with six to play. Should Oberland win tonight, then the T-51s will clinch the division, so this sweep was highly important for Egret.

The Yao Guai is going to have to regret their performance this weekend because they seemed to be in position to be the team in second place if they could manage a road sweep, but being swept almost guarantees the spot for Egret.

Looking at some of our stars of the weekend, Bill Chaney was the Player of the Game in Game 1 when the Scrappers won 7-3. Chaney was 2 for 4 with a double and a grand slam in the 8th inning that broke a 3-3 tie. He scored twice, knocked in four, and walked once.

Crops Gerdenheimer got the top player award in Game 2. The Scrappers won that one 12-5 thanks to Gerdenheimer's offense. He was 3 for 5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and five RBIs. Egret also got a complete game from Nick Poppa, earning his ninth win of the season.

Not to be outdone, Gerdenheimer was also today's most valuable player, and he has a good chance to be the R-L Player of the Week. Today, he was 3 for 4 with two home runs, two runs scored, and four runs batted in.

Next week, we have first choice. Of course, we will watch what happens the rest of today, but we already know where we are going next week, so let me announce it right now. Next week in at Starlight Drive-In, Piper Wright and the BosCom crew are hooking up a closed-circuit camera to the movie projector. Therefore, in what is a tight playoff race, we are planning to watch the Sunshine Tidings Chemists take on the Lady Killers.

Right now, the Chemists lead Fort Hagen 9-8 in the top of the ninth. If the Chemists win, they will move to 28-26, which will put them two-and-a-half games behind Starlight for the wildcard. The Lady Killers have lost their first two games of the series so far at Abernathy, which currently puts them two games back at 30-23.

Ok, folks. It may not have been a competitive series this weekend, but at least we know now what the Railroad League picture looks like. See you on the big screen next week, CBO, if you're there. This is Travis Miles, and I am out of here!
