2296 Playoffs - Quarterfinals - Game 1

Changing the schedule may help my pitching, but it has thrown all OOTP news stories off. I have no choice but to edit them or turn them off. Sorry if I overlook anything. I am multitasking!

I also decided to add the boxscores instead of just the stories. No full linescores just yet. The nest post will be more organized.

20 August 2296 - Warwick Escapes in The Slog

The Warwick Mirelurks took a 1-0 series lead, downing the The Slog Ghouls on the road at Tarberry Field Forever by a score of 8-7. Mirelurks center fielder Warwick Homestead went 5-5 with 2 doubles and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.

In the top of the first, with the game still scoreless, Homestead hit a run-scoring double to put his team in the lead.

"Huge," Homestead said. "Getting a win in the first playoff game is huge."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow in The Slog. Slated to start are Justin Sphinx for the Warwick Mirelurks and Gary Estate for The Slog Ghouls.

20 August 2296 - Super Swinger -- Homestead Slams 5 Hits

It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Warwick Homestead today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Tarberry Field Forever and paced the Mirelurks to a 8-7 win over The Slog Ghouls.

After his dynamite batting performance, the Warwick center fielder told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."

His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. Warwick Homestead hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

In his stats this season, Homestead has posted a batting average of .353 with 95 hits in 269 at-bats, 5 home runs and 53 RBIs. He has also scored 51 runs, walked 16 times and compiled a .388 OBP.

20 August 2296 - Lady Killers Hammered by Basile, Fall Back 1-0

Finch Farm Four Leafs right fielder Matt Basile was the difference-maker at Valentine Detective Agency Field today, as he led his club to victory in a pivotal Game 1 of the Quarterfinals. The Four Leafs took the 11-4 win over the Starlight Lady Killers to seize a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series presented by Diamond City Radio.

In the top of the first, with the game still scoreless, Basile hit a run-scoring single to put his team in the lead. The Four Leafs never trailed.

"We're going to have to play flawless baseball from here on out," Starlight player-coach and losing pitcher City Moore said. "Which, let's face it, we haven't been doing lately."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Steve Rocky for the Finch Farm Four Leafs and Enrique Rodriguez for the Starlight Lady Killers.

20 August 2296 - Cats Shut Out 51s in Game 1 Matchup

Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope knew he couldn't win the series for the Atom Cats because it would take a lot more than one start. The best he could do, he figured, was put the Cats up a game and give the Coolest Field in Town faithful a good time. Check and check.

The Atom right-hander threw a complete-game shutout against the red-hot Oberland T-51s to get the Cats on the board in the series, striking out 2 along the way. The Cats will be looking to keep the momentum the next time the teams meet. With the 5-0 win, Atom now leads 1-0 in the best-of-5 series presented by WRVR.

The T-51s had trouble solving Hope, who surrendered no runs on 5 hits over 9 innings.

"I'll be honest," said Hope, "I didn't have much left in the tank."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Coolest Field in Town. The scheduled starters for the game are Matt Udder for Oberland and Wyatt Wallace for Atom.

20 August 2296 - Oberland Blanked by Hope

Everything clicked on the hill today for Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope as he hurled the Atom Cats to a 5-0 shutout win over the Oberland T-51s, limiting them to 5 hits while recording 2 strikeouts and yielding 3 walks. He overpowered some batters with fastballs and buckled knees with sharp breaking pitches.

"We had our shot at him a couple of different times," T-51s player-coach Jonathan Abern said. "We just weren't able to get to him."

Hope has made 21 starts, tossed 126.1 innings, struck out 76 batters and walked 46. His record is 7-8 with a 7.05 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .317 batting average.

30 August 2296 - Big 9th Propels Abernathy

Abernathy shortstop Austin Engill was the key at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina today, as he powered the Adamantium to victory in a critical Game 1 of the First Round. The Adamantium took the 12-9 win over the Egret Scrappers to seize a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.

Abernathy used a clutch hit from Kevin Covert to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Adamantium ahead, 12-9. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Every team in baseball loses," Scrappers player-coach Troy Phillabum said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. The scheduled starters for the game are Joe Penaltybox for the Abernathy Adamantium and Nick Poppa for the Egret Scrappers.
