1 September 2296 - Gadz Missing

Salem Witch Hats reserve third baseman Mike Gadzinski is missing, according to a caravan operator who was traveling north with him. According to the caravaneer, whose name we do not have, their group was ambushed by raiders north of the Commonwealth patrol zones. Gadzinski was headed to Boxford, Massachusetts, following the CBO regular season.

The caravaneer and others were able to escape, but they said that they saw Gadzinski get “collared.” Being collared means that a person had a slave collar placed around his or her neck. Raider groups are notorious for capturing people and putting them into slavery, especially the young and strong. They are kept in captivity by having an explosive collar that limits their movements.

The CBO office and Brotherhood of Steel operatives have been alerted and will search the areas from Salem to Boxford for the whereabouts of the raider gang and stronghold.

When Gadzinski did not get drafted in the 2296 Inaugural CBO Draft, he figured the best team to try to sign with was the Salem Witch Hats since he was from Boxford, just northwest of Salem. His family stayed in Boxford, while Gadz, as he is called by everyone he meets, moved to Salem three years ago when he was 14 to play in the Charlestown Youth League’s Salem Museum People.

For three years, he played ball for the Museum People, so he was excited to get a chance to play for the Salem Witch Hats as an undrafted free agent. Unfortunately for him, he was never able to break through to the active roster, so he remained a reserve all season.

Once the season ended for the Witch Hats, he decided to return to Boxford to spend time with his family rather than rejoining the Museum People for fall ball. All players from 14-18 are allowed to play youth league baseball. Next season, the CBO will move to allow only players 18 or older to move to the CBO or join an independent adult team. Players under 18 will have to remain in the youth leagues unless they are already on a CBO roster.

We will update you when we receive any word about Gadzinski. We at Publick Occurrences also would like to remind our readers that areas outside the Boston Commonwealth area are still highly dangerous. Take extra armor and weapons with you wherever you go!
