Halfway mark of the season as we reach the World Juniors. Owen Sound is still in 1st place despite the injuries. A bunch of our players are over at the WJC's and we have a couple of guys day-to-day so our roster is looking a bit thin at the moment.
Andrey Misin (G) - Russia
Wade Chalmers (LW) - Canada
Connor Quinn (C) - Canada
Tomas Marsalek (C) - Czech Republic
Matt MacDermid has assumed the #1 defenceman role and team captain with the departures of Noah Cochrane and Madden Steen. He is having a tremendous season from the blueline, leading the team in scoring. The Winnipeg Jets own his NHL rights and have to be salivating at the chance to have him patrol their blueline possibly as early as next season.
Wade Chalmers is now 2nd in Owen Sound history in goals and points and should break Bobby Ryan's record of 325 career points. Chalmers, to this date, has been my only 20 rated player and has been a scoring machine since his rookie campaign.
A bunch of younger players have made their marks this season with the Attack. Our center depth is really thin and we still might make a deadline move to acquire a top notch goalie to make another run at the OHL crown. Look for Owen Sound to circle the trade market this season to add some depth, especially with a bunch of injuries.
Meanwhile, the defending Memorial Cup champs from out West, the Calgary Hitmen are cruising along again with a 28-2-1 record. It's way too early to say but could there be a rematch of last year's Memorial Cup final this year????
My trade rules are the following. For forwards and defencemen, I only trade for players that the CPU puts on the trade block. For goalies, I only look at teams who are not contenders for the OHL playoffs as realistically, they would be moving goalies in trades if it made sense for them. I'm also emulating real life OHL draft pick rules and not trading for multiple first round picks.
