This was driving me nuts too, but I didn't know you could sign your prospects to tryouts.
On a somewhat related note, if I have a player signed to an NHL contract but on my AHL team be able to be called for international duty (mid-season tournaments, not World Cup)? I would think they would be bound to the NHL agreement and have to stay on the AHL squad.
