I read a report this morning that all the young talent was sent to Toledo. All of this was expected but I want to look at Casey Mize in particular. No way this isn’t anything more than service time manipulation correct? The article said that the Tigers would need to wait one week to gain the extra year. If they waited a week I’m sure most people would be fine with it. However, the article also stated that if they waited a month into the ‘21 season they would obviously garner more control. So what would you do? Mize is 23 years old by the way. The following guys are younger than Mize right now:
Fernando Tatis Jr.
Juan Soto
Bryse Wilson (Rhp Braves)
Ronald Acuna Jr.
Victor Robles
Ozzie Albies (older than Mize by a few months so I included him)
My point is two of these teams (Braves and Nationals) are clearly not concerned about manipulating service time and want their best talent playing at the MLB level. Also, with the exception of Wilson these players are contributing factors in the win column for their clubs. Under the premise of waiting to the first month of the ‘21 season, where Mize would be 24, would the Tigers be making the right decision?
